The best ski area in the world ??? Its certainly up there isn’t it. Val d’Isere or Val, as its affectionately know buy the thousands of Brits that flock there each year, has one of the best varied, high altitude and snow sure ski areas in the world. Together with Tignes it forms the Espace Killy ski are with over 300km or pistes and 78 lifts.
The town itself hasn’t always been a place of beauty but the winter Olymipcs of 1992 hosted in nearby Alberville saw large investment to the village and its accommodations in the build up. Today it boasts some of the highest end luxury chalets anywhere in the world.
The ski lift system is very efficient and recent and continuous investment insures its top of the charts for volume of skier shifted per hour. Its means you can avoid those annoying lift queues.
Pistes are perfectly groomed and there is endless skiing for all levels from complete beginner to extreme pitch seekers.
All this glitz and technology apparently comes at a price. With some of the most expensive lift passes anywhere and mountain lunch tags to rival that of Verbier & St Moritz et al for some this pushes the wallet to the extreme. All things considered it has no apparent effect on the large volumes of UK, Dutch, French and international skiers keen to be seen skiing in Val.
