Flaine Ski Resort

Nestled at the top of the Grand Massif mountain range Flaine was discovered and conceptualised in 1959 by the geophysicist Éric Boissonnas and the Swiss architect Gérard Chervaz. With environmental harmony put before short term profit the dedicated ski town of Flaine was created. Revolutionary at the time and still to some who ski there it is another resort that polarises ski communities. Indeed the first snow cannons in the world were installed into Flaine.

Skiing centres around the huge bowl in which the Flaine forum village sits. Giving a 270 degree ski panorama the pistes effectively enable you to chase the sun all day. Or in spring get away from the melt. Pistes are very well groomed and the lift system copes very well with demand with new installations from 2006 onwards helping the modernisation programme.

Liked to Les Carroz, Samoens and Morillion it boasts 250km plus of pistes in the grands massif ski area. Higher up at 1700m Flaine foret is the newer Norwegian cabin style development and brings a zest of architectural freshness to the area. Being popular with families Flaine is a short transfer drive from GVA.
