Oh Courchevel…. How we love and hate you. Without doubt one of the worlds finest ski resorts. Being the spiritual heart of the 3 valleys ski region, the worlds largest with over 700km of pistes and comprising of Meribel and Val Thorens the area of Courchevel was Frances first purpose built ski resort. All pervious stations had being built around existing villages.
The resort has 4 principle resort hamlets.
Courchevel 1300 (Le Praz), Courchevel 1550, Courchevel 1650 (Moriond), and Courchevel 1850.
1850 is one of the world’s most prestigious and expensive resorts. A favourite with Oligarchs and wealthy patrons the resort oozes luxury and decadence. This aside the skiing is simply ‘magnifique’ with immaculately groomed pistes and seemingly unlimited possibilities for a days skiing. This can lead to overcrowding in peak season and weekends. However, the modern lift system seems to cope surprisingly well with the demand.
Our tip for the price conscious is to stay lower down in the valley 1650 or lower as there are some fantastic chalets and bars that have a more honest feel to them.
